Business advisory Cor Cordis observes 20th anniversary of Earth Hour
Business advisory Cor Cordis will be joining dozens of other local organisations and buildings in observing this year’s Earth Hour, which marks the environmental initiative’s 20th anniversary.
Organised by the World Wildlife Fund, the now global Australian-born initiative was first held in Sydney in 2007 as an environmental movement to bring greater attention to climate change, before quickly spreading around the world.
Taking place this Saturday from 8.30 pm (universally local time), Earth Hour’s 20th anniversary event is expected to eclipse last year’s record figures of more than three million hours ‘returned’ to the planet via participants in 100-plus countries.
Among this year’s contributors will be business and restructuring consultancy Cor Cordis, which will be switching off all non-essential lights across its offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. While acknowledging the largely symbolic nature of the action in energy-savings terms, the firm is also encouraging its teams and clients to get personally involved.
“At Cor Cordis, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact and proud to support Earth Hour,” the firm stated. “2026 marks two decades of global action uniting individuals and organisations to drive awareness and meaningful change for the planet. On Saturday, we’ll join a global community committed to a more sustainable future.”
While Earth Hour’s web-page doesn’t list organisations which are taking part, and fundraising is only a very minor component of the event compared to the awareness factor, other consultancies to have signed up in the past include the Australian branches of the Big Four and Accenture, along with a wide range of engineering and environmental advisories both big and small.
The page does however feature a number of participating buildings and landmarks. The Melbourne office of Cor Cordis for example, located on Collins near Queen, will be plunged into darkness alongside skyscrapers at both the ‘Paris’ and Docklands ends of the street, while most of Melbourne Park will go dark with no AFL matches scheduled next door at the MCG.
Up north in Sydney, participating landmarks include the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, while risk advisory Kroll is in fact one of the very few companies listed on Earth Hour’s website. BDO’s reasonably new address at Parkline Place will also extinguish its candles, as will Boston Consulting Group’s historic location at 60 Martin Place among many others
“While symbolic, this moment is part of a broader call to action that encourages more conscious energy use, sustainable choices, and long-term behavioural change,” Cor Cordis, which will this year celebrate its own 20th anniversary, stated on its LinkedIn page. “We invite our team, clients, and community to take part at home and be part of this global movement.”
