Joao Segorbe joins MinterEllison’s ESG consulting practice
Law firm MinterEllison has bolstered its ESG consulting practice with industry expert and former McKinsey partner Joao Segorbe.
Appointed a partner in MinterEllison Consulting, Joao Segorbe brings 20+ years of experience to the firm in the energy sector. He has worked in energy markets in Australia and Europe and gained experience both in management consulting as well as in industry.
Most recently, Segorbe worked at AGL in the role of Executive General Manager of Strategy & Corporate Development. Before that, he spent 15 years at strategic consultancy McKinsey & Company, where he latterly was a partner and Head of the Electrical Power and Natural Gas practice in Australia and New Zealand.
“I am pleased to join MinterEllison and look forward to assisting institutions on their large-scale ESG-related transformation opportunities and challenges.”
“ESG topics have become key issues across all sectors, with challenges emerging even faster than legislators have been developing in the field. MinterEllison is Australia’s leading law firm, where I can work with my legal colleagues to help clients navigate their energy transition and broad ESG risks smoothly,” Segorbe said on his move.
In his role, Segorbe will lead the advisory side of the firm’s multidisciplinary offering, and work work closely with partner and Head of the Climate Change & Sustainability practice Sarah Barker, who was recently appointed joint Chair of the World Economic Forum key climate governance body, The Climate Governance Community of Experts.
Commenting on the hire, MinterEllison Managing Partner Virginia Briggs said: “Joao's long-held focus on strategy and M&A in energy transition across all its dimensions will be of immense value to our clients, as will his perspective from his experience as an energy company executive and as an internationally experienced consultant.”
Joao Segorbe has an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management (US) and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal).
Earlier this year, MinterEllison Consulting appointed Usman Khan and Shannon Sedgwick to leadership roles.
