Nous Group opens an office in Darwin, eighth in Australia
Australian-origin management consultancy Nous Group has opened a new office in Darwin, its eighth in the country and ninth globally.
“We believe there is a lot of important work that Nous should do in the Northern Territory,” said Tim Orton, founder and managing director of Nous Group. The firm has been active in the region for years, more recently served through its offices in Broome and Townsville, and with the launch of a presence in Darwin the consultancy aims to ramp up its presence in the north.
Darwin is the capital of Australia's Northern Territory and is the area’s most important economic hub. To establish and run the local office, Nous Group has relocated a team of three consultants to Darwin – Emma White (a Principal), Robert Sale (a Senior Consultant) and Veevek Doolabh (a Consultant).
White has been with Nous Group since April last year, she 25 years of experience in human services and is a former director general at Western Australia’s Department for Child Protection and Family Support.
Speaking of the expansion, White pointed at the multitude of regional challenges that could benefit from Nous’ expertise across organisation, operations, digitisation, project management and human capital. “Nous is committed to delivering high-quality results in complex, sensitive and contested circumstances,” she said. “We have learnt that getting behind the aspirations of local communities, leaders and organisations, and working in deep partnership, can lead to great success and contribute to thriving communities.”
Alongside serving publicly listed companies and large organisations, Nous Group will also serve the interests of local players and small and mid-sized businesses. Orton: “Nous has always sought to achieve positive influence in rural and regional communities, ensuring people and organisations outside our biggest cities enjoy the opportunities we all expect.”
On top of its three offices in the north, Nous Group has offices in the major economic hubs of Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Perth and London. According to reports by news outlet Northern Territory News, the firm opted for Darwin as its based ahead of Adelaide and Hobart. The decision builds on the opportunity to better position the firm for winning work under local procurement rules, said company founder Orton.
Sale and Doolabh bring experience in economics, data analytics, stakeholder consultation and project management, and policy and evaluation in health and human services, respectively to the new locale. Commenting on their move to the Northern Territory, they said ““I’m delighted this opportunity has come up for me at Nous” (Doolabh) and “I cannot wait to start working with our clients in Darwin and the people and communities they serve” (Sale).
The announcement comes in the year that the consulting firm is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Nous Group – named Australia’s top consulting firm by AFR two years ago – was founded in 1999 and today employs some 400 consultants and staff.
Nous Group’s expansion comes at a time when Australia’s management consulting market is expanding at an impressive rate. Last year the industry booked its fastest growth in seven years (+8%), lifting total fee income in the higher segment of the market to $5.4 billion.
