Sydney-based restructuring boutique Wexted Advisors has launched new offices in Melbourne and Brisbane, respectively led by ex-PwC director Chris Sequeira and Grant Thornton recruit Rebecca Wilson.

Chris Sequeira joins the insolvency and restructuring firm as its fourth partner after spending the best part of the past decade at PwC and its 2018 acquisition PBB Advisory, before which he served in business recovery roles with Grant Thornton, BDO, and BDO Kendells merger partner Horwath dating back for twenty years.

Notably, the launch of a permanent base in Melbourne follows less than a month on from Wexted setting up shop in Brisbane, with Rebecca Wilson coming on board from Grant Thornton in January as a director and Queensland practice lead after also previously spending time at Ernst & Young, KPMG, Jirsch Sutherland, and Deloitte.

“This is a very exciting time for the firm,” stated managing director Joe Hayes. “The creation of a permanent presence in Queensland and now Victoria follows seven years of successful operations and a lengthy back-story in Sydney. But the message from our clients was that our quality of offering and client reach supported our physical expansion.”

Wexted

Hayes established Wexted in 2017 following more than two and a half decades between McGrathNicol and KPMG, including as a partner at both, and in addition to Sequeira has since welcomed two other partners; former McGrathNicol directors Andrew McCabe, who joined shortly after the firm’s formation, and Chris Johnson, who crossed in 2023.

In joining the trio, Sequeira said; “I’m eager to embark on this new chapter, leading the charge in Melbourne to provide trusted services to our clients. Wexted and its team of highly skilled professionals share my passion for delivering exceptional results in times of financial crises, with integrity, professionalism, empathy, and respect for all stakeholders.”

Across his two decade career, Sequeira has amassed experience in all aspects of insolvency and restructuring across a range of sectors, including retail, food & hospitality, manufacturing, construction, and superannuation among others, providing support in areas such as pre-lending reviews, expert opinion reports, and litigation assessments.

“Chris has the values and background that will make him both a great leader in the firm, a great partner and colleague, and a great advisor to our clients,” stated Hayes, adding of Wilson; “She reflects all the qualities we want in our leaders and we look forward to her success.”

On launching its newest office, which is located at 385 Bourke Street at the corner of Elizabeth, the firm noted that it already previously conducted many safe harbour and insolvency assignments in Melbourne, including a recent engagement as the administrators of Sunshine Private Hospital.
