MBB Group remodels operating structure for growth and client-focused agility

International advisory firm MBB Group has restructured its operating structure to accommodate its growth, while sharpening its client focus and internal effectiveness.
Established in Sydney in 2014, MBB Group is a consulting firm specialised in managing large-scale, complex infrastructure projects. The firm has almost 200 professionals spread across offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Auckland.
Earlier this week, MBB Group announced the restructuring of its group-wide operating structure to ensure the business continues its promise of “high quality client service delivery”, said chief executive Matthew Brook.
The move comes following a period of rapid, growth. In 2024, MBB Group enjoyed another year of organic growth, and accelerated through the acquisition of iPLAN Consulting, which added a team of around 30 new staff.
“Having doubled the size of the business over the course of two years, we sought a new model to ensure we maintains an agile, client-focussed approach,” said Brook. “The new model enables our senior client-facing leaders to remain accessible to our clients and fully focused their needs, while providing opportunities to our emerging leaders to step up into senior roles.”
Key Changes
Key changes include Peter Jones and Shane Chidgzey (the founder of iPLAN) both taking on the role of Managing Director, and the appointment of four team members to regional director: Richard Wilkinson (Victoria), Arnaud Deutsch (New Zealand), Charlie Hollis (South Australia), and James Woods (New South Wales). They complement existing national service line leaders Sean Laidlaw (Project Controls) and Juan Martin (Risk)
Newly appointed Managing Director Jones noted: “This new structure allows us to support business growth while remaining true to our client commitments and our way of working.” Chidgzey added: “This new structure grows our integrated capabilities, and provides all our teams direct access to industry leading controls specialists.”
Another change is the creation of the Major Projects practice, which offers an integrated service offering from both the MBB and iPLAN side of the business to help its clients across the full lifecycle of major capital projects. The arm is led by Katrina Street, whilst Rob Fields remains focussed on business growth in new regions.
“Key to the restructure is also the expansion of our corporate functions,” said Brook, highlighting the arrival of Rebecca Vostri, who has been installed as Director for Planning & Control. “She works closely with Noel O'Keeffe [CFO] and Jemima Butt [Operations Director] to drive day-to-day business success and provide a solid foundation for both our teams and clients.”
The foundation for growth
With the foundation in place, Brook said MBB Group is well positioned to enter its next growth phase. “It’s an exciting time, and we’re committed to further growing the business in Australia & New Zealand, while servicing increasing demand for services in the Middle East and Asia Pacific.”
Since its inception, MBB Group has successfully delivered some of Australia’s most complex rail and road infrastructure programs on behalf of public and private sector clients. The firm also plays a lead role in driving the energy transition, and provides integrated advisory services to clients across the transport, water, defence, ports, social and resources sectors.
