New research among dozens of large and small companies in Australia has identified the country’s top employers for LGBQT inclusion. The consulting industry is well represented.

Every year since 2010, researchers from Pride in Diversity and the Australian Workplace Equality Index conduct research into the state of diversity and inclusion at Australian organisations, and in particular LGBTQ inclusion. Using an objective and rigorous methodology, the researchers assess LGBTQ friendliness across a range of dimensions.

These include LGBTQ strategy, the availability and support of role models, bullying and harassment policies, LGBTQ reference guides, anti-discrimination, support of transgender employees, communities and programs for LGBTQ’s and public advocacy.

According to the findings, seven firms in the consulting industry rank among the country’s top LGBTQ employers, which includes the likes of Commonwealth Bank, Clayton Utz, J.P. Morgan, Macquarie, Police, RMIT University and Woolworths.

Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC, Accenture, Capgemini Invent, Boston Consulting Group, Oliver Wyman, Mercer

All four of the Big Four accounting and consulting giants – Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC – have made the cut, with the largest of the quartet in Australia PwC receiving special praise for its long term track record in LGBTQ leadership.

Also named a top consulting firm for LGBQT staff are two firms with a technology heritage: Accenture (its consulting division operates as Accenture Strategy and Accenture Consulting) and Capgemini (its consultancy arm goes to market as Capgemini Invent).

Boston Consulting Group and Oliver Wyman are both consultancies that specialise in strategy & operations. Boston Consulting Group is the world’s second largest strategy consulting firm, while Oliver Wyman is the fourth largest player in the segment with revenues of US$2.1 billion. The seventh consulting firm lauded for its LGBTQ policies is Mercer, like Oliver Wyman a subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies.
