McGrathNicol partner Wynand Mullins joins FTI Consulting
McGrathNicol partner Wynand Mullins has left the national advisory firm to join rival FTI Consulting.
Appointed a Senior Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Forensic and Litigation Consulting segment, Wynand Mullins has been tasked with expanding the practice’s footprint in Australia. The unit supports clients – corporates, law firms and regulators – with services including dispute advisory, financial investigations, forensic accounting and data analysis during litigation, arbitration, and regulatory scrutiny.
An accountant by background, Mullins brings over 20 years of forensic accounting and expert witness experience in Australia, New Zealand and United Kingdom to the global consultancy. Prior to joining, he was a partner at McGrathNicol, and before that he served Ferrier Hodgson (bought by KPMG in 2019) for thirteen years, including five years as a partner.
Earlier in his career, Mullins worked for Zolfo Cooper (acquired by AlixPartners) and a domestic accounting firm in New Zealand.
He specialises in class actions, insurance-related claims and post-acquisition disputes, and has appeared as an expert witness in numerous courts. Mullins has also prepared expert reports relevant to loss and damage, financial investigations and valuation matters in legal proceedings including the Federal Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of Victoria, the Grand Cayman Court and the High Court of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Commenting on his new role, Mullins said he has been “humbled and overwhelmed by the level of internal and client support” he has received since joining the US$2.5 billion consulting company early March. “I look forward to contributing to our team’s growth and the Australian practice’s successful trajectory.”
The high-profile hire comes shortly after FTI Consulting added John Batchelor (Senior Managing Director) and Neil Birchall (Managing Director) to its team down under.
