University of Auckland student Tiffany Chee wins Bain scholarship
Global strategy consulting firm Bain & Company has named Tiffany Chee the 2021 winner of its True North Scholarship in Australia.
The True North Scholarship was established in 2014 by the consultancy, with the aim of supporting and encouraging exceptional female students to enter the world of strategy consulting – a segment where women are traditionally underrepresented (in particular in the higher ranks).
Over the past seven years, the scholarship has helped Bain & Company achieve gender balance in its Associate Consultant rank, said Peter Stumbles, Managing Partner of Bain & Company in Australia. “We continue to invest to improve the gender balance and diversity of our Bain team (and leadership), and this scholarship has been an important initiative on this journey and a reflection of this commitment.”
This year’s scholarship program resulted in 23 Associate Consultant offers awarded to women, including scholarship winner Tiffany Chee. Currently a student at the University of Auckland, Chee is on course to graduate at the end of 2022 with a Bachelor of Commerce and Laws majoring in accounting, finance and law.
Explaining why Chee was crowned the winner, Stumbles took to LinkedIn to state: “Tiffany has demonstrated a strong passion for empowering women having launched the University of Auckland Women in Business (UAWB) student society during lockdown last year, and has made a significant contribution to society, previously co-founding a technology start-up focused on helping the Deaf community become more aware of their auditory environments.”
“In addition, Tiffany has held multiple executive positions in the University of Auckland Management Consulting Club and Law Students Societies whilst being an executive member of the Model UN Council working to engage school youth into their programs.”
According to employee review site Glassdoor, Bain & Company is one of the world’s most recommended employers and the top company to work for in the management consulting industry. In Australia, Bain & Company last year was named one of the country’s top consulting firms for graduates.
