Chalking up its second acquisition so far this year, IT services and consulting firm Atturra has purchased four-decade old managed services provider Somerville for upwards of $15 million.

IT services and consulting firm Atturra has continued its steady string of acquisitions with the purchase of Sydney-headquartered managed services provider Somerville in a cash and shares deal worth up to $19 million including bonuses.

Expected to complete at the end of the month, the acquisition will see Somerville CEO and founder Craig Somerville join the Atturra team alongside sales and education directors Adrian Toole and David La Bozzetta.

“The acquisition of Somerville will be significant, as it will not only provide Atturra with a broad-based managed services capability to facilitate large end-to-end projects, but it will also strengthen our position within the Australian education sector,” said CEO Stephen Kowal.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to bring Somerville into the fold, as it is a trusted technology partner with over 30 years’ experience offering solutions that will complement the Atturra offerings.”

Established by Somerville way back in the early 80s, the company operates out of offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and provides a wide range of managed services to the corporate and education sectors, including offerings in cloud, connectivity, security, and software lifecycle management among other areas.

According to Atturra, Somerville’s IT solutions and managed services mix supports more than 285 independent schools across Australia.

“This acquisition represents an outstanding opportunity for Somerville’s staff, clients and partners,” Craig Somerville stated. “Atturra has forged a strong reputation as a well-respected player within the Australian IT services industry, with long-standing client and partner relationships. Our strong focus on delivering quality outcomes to our valued customers will be enhanced by the breadth and depth of offerings that Atturra brings.”

Beyond education, which Somerville has focused on for the past two and a half decades, Atturra further noted that the company’s client-base spanned several other sectors, including finance, legal, insurance, superannuation and automotive, and said the acquisition would enable it to “deliver the entire technology stack from application to infrastructure, further accelerating business growth and supporting the expansion of operations into new technologies and markets.”

Somerville marks the latest in a consistent string of purchases made by Atturra, both before its 2021 rebranding from FTS Group and since then and its $25 million capital raise upon its early-2022 listing on the ASX. Most recently, Atturra picked up Melbourne-based Microsoft specialist Hammond Street Developments for $6.5 million, adding a headcount of around 100 based in Melbourne and across additional locations in Sydney, and Canberra.
