Proximity to host professional development day for public sector employees

Government-focused consultancy firm Proximity has announced the 2025 edition of its annual Proximity Day Out.
The free full day event will take place on Tuesday 25 February at Hotel Realm in Canberra, and feature 12 sessions that will dive into the greatest challenges facing agencies today. The sessions will also outline how agencies can overcome these challenges, as well as achieve APS Strategic Framework objectives.
For the legal sector, highlight acts include an ethics panel that will discuss a range of hypothetical scenarios, another session will look at common contract conundrums and navigating the complexities of Grandfather's axe, reviving expired agreements, and the implications of uncertainty created by poor drafting. The team will also explore the concept of trauma-informed legal practice, outlining ways to prevent harm to citizens and enable lawyers to manage burnout, compassion-fatigue and vicarious trauma.
For those in consulting, keynotes of interest include a session outlining essential preparations for upcoming mandatory climate reporting as well as a presentation that looks at how Government navigates the world of technology, artificial intelligence and cyber security.
Practitioners in commercial roles can look forward to hearing about applying probity and integrity principles, building and sustaining key relationships for procurement success and aligning government procurement practices with net zero targets.
Alongside the presentations and sessions, APS participants will have the opportunity to connect and network with peers from across the landscape.
Practical advice
Zoe Lynam, the CEO of Proximity, says delegates can expect to receive plenty of practical advice to take back to their workplace and put into action.
“As a government focused organisation, we’re hyper aware of the ever-changing and unique landscape that public sector employees operate within. We are committed to empowering and enabling our clients and are generous when it comes to sharing our expertise and knowledge to uplift internal capability. We are looking forward to unveiling a raft of insights and seeing new and familiar faces on the day,” concluded Lynam.
