Fusion5 recruits former Capgemini head Deepak Nangia as new CEO
Ambitious Australasian tech consultancy Fusion5 has appointed former Capgemini A/NZ CEO and EY senior leader Deepak Nangia as its new group CEO following a spate of recent acquisitions.
Based out of Sydney, Nangia has served as Ernst & Young’s Asia Pacific managed services consulting leader for the past two years, before which he was A/NZ and Southeast Asia CEO of Capgemini and locally headed Saytam.
Fusion5 said Nangia’s appointment as group CEO would help drive the trans-Tasman consultancy’s next phase of growth, including beyond Oceania, and follows a string of acquisitions, most recently that of Kordia’s managed IT business.
“We believe the market potential locally and further abroad is enormous, both in our traditional focus area of business applications and in our high-growth areas such as managed services, data & integration, AI, and transformation & advisory,” said executive chair Rebecca Tohill. “Deepak brings significant knowledge and experience in these growth areas, both locally and in Asia.”
Kicking off his IT career in India in the late 1980s, Nangia was in 2002 appointed A/NZ country head of Satyam Computer Services, which later became part of Tech Mahindra. From there, he spent a decade and a half in senior roles at Capgemini, including as A/NZ CEO and latterly as chief customer officer & head of transformation, before joining EY as a partner in late 2023.
Since then, he has led the Big Four firm’s APAC managed services consulting offering, a particular area of strategic focus for Fusion5 over the past two years under the ownership of BGH Capital, from its acquisition of Vigilant IT in 2023 through to the likes of GoCloud Systems and November’s Kordia purchase – an expanded portfolio reflected in the firm’s recent brand overhaul.
“Fusion5 has a remarkable reputation,” Nangia said. “It’s clear that the strong foundations it has built are the result of years of hard work, commitment, and high standards set by every member of the team. That foundation is exactly why I’m here, and excited to lead Fusion5 into its next era of growth and help clients not just navigate but harness AI and business application platforms.”
Tohill, who also spent time at Capgemini and EY prior to co-founding Fusion5 in 2002, said Nangia’s appointment would also help the firm in building its structure “to support a much larger business.” The transformation has been underway for some time, with Tohill handing over to now Australia CEO Sven Martin in 2023 and Kirsty Brown taking on the NZ role earlier this year.
