Transport for NSW inks IT outsourcing deal with Avocado Consulting
Sydney-based managed services provider Avocado Consulting has won a multi-million dollar contract over its larger global rivals to provide Transport NSW with application monitoring over the next five years.
Transport for NSW has signed a multi-year managed services contract with Avocado Consulting for application monitoring across the agency and its Sydney Trains, Sydney Metro, and NSW Trains divisions over the next five years, worth “many millions” of dollars.
Avocado Consulting has provided professional services to Transport for NSW since 2017, and is a long-standing partner of its three monitoring suites; Splunk, Dynatrace, and Airlock Digital.
The deal will see Avocado Consulting deliver year-round support in operational and performance monitoring, security information and event management, and end-point protection, with its team led by digital & cloud solutions practice manager Mohit Dewan. The consultancy said it was particularly chuffed to have come out on top against global top-tier providers, as the only locally-owned and based vendor able to meet the contract’s 365-day, 24/7 criteria.
“Avocado Consulting is proud to have won such an important contract with Transport for NSW and its cluster agencies, which collectively hold the critical responsibility of keeping our state moving,” stated chief executive Gerardo Barranquero.
“This is another feather in our cap, adding to the growing number of government agencies that trust Avocado to provide professional and managed IT services in both New South Wales and Victoria.”
Established in 2004 by Barranquero and principal consultant Terry Doherty, Avocado Consulting has since ripened to include a second office in Melbourne and a nationwide team of around 150 staff serving government and corporate clients with both managed services and in other areas such as software development, product delivery, and change management. Last year the company beefed up its cybersecurity capabilities via the purchase of Cyberisk.
Such ongoing investments, says Barranquero, have enabled Avocado Consulting to evolve alongside the changing technology environment and land the larger Transport for NSW-type tenders; “We are a very different company to the one that started in 2004 performing software testing. Today, our best-practice managed service solutions reflect the changes in work practices, methodology, technology, and tools needed to meet the demands of the current IT landscape.”
In terms of the digital platforms at the centre of its latest multi-year contract, Avocado Consulting is a premier partner of both Splunk and software intelligence provider Dynatrace, becoming the first in the Australian market for the latter in 2018. The firm in the same year launched its 24/7 monitoring offering for Splunk enterprise customers, and was more recently the first local partner to gain the data platform’s Managed Services badge.
“Application monitoring under managed service agreements are increasingly popular with clients like Transport for NSW,” Barranquero concluded. “Avocado Consulting’s injection of expertise helps clients overcome the challenges they face in complex IT environments and deliver consistent and valued customer experiences. Our managed services ensures Transport for NSW can engage proactively, instilling confidence by bringing certainty to their operations.”
