Accounting and consulting network Pitcher Partners has installed company veteran Norman Thurecht as its new managing partner in Brisbane, succeeding long-term leader Nigel Fischer.

Thurecht has been with Pitcher Partners and its local predecessor Johnston Rorke for more than twenty years, while Fischer has served as managing partner during the past decade and a half and will continue on as chairman of partners.

“With Norm’s fresh perspective and extensive expertise, we look forward to continued growth and success,” the firm stated. “We thank Nigel for his strong leadership and commitment in his ongoing journey as partner within the firm.”

Thurecht joined Johnston Rorke in 2003, with the 70s-founded Queensland accountancy in turn joining Pitcher Partners in Brisbane six years on. Thurecht will now lead a local partnership team of around two dozen (of more than 150 nationwide), including recent EY recruit Ventura Caso and mid-year admission Tracey Norris – the latter who also dates back to the Johnston Rorke days.

Over his two-decade career at the firm, Thurecht has developed deep expertise in accounting and taxation together with data benchmarking and financial analysis to drive business improvement and profitability for small-to-medium enterprises, with a particular focus in the pharmacy & healthcare and retail segments. He is also currently a director of the non-profit MND and Me Foundation.

Thurecht takes over from Fischer, who joined Johnston Rorke from Ernst & Young and has been a partner at the firm since 1998. Alongside Ross Walker, he has led the firm since 2011, while providing a range of financial and business advice to many of the state’s pre-eminent private and family enterprises in sectors such as property & construction, hospitality, and manufacturing.

Thurecht follows Adam Irwin in Sydney as Pitcher Partners’ latest long-term state-level leadership transition, while Ben Brazier took over in Adelaide at the start of 2020. Overseeing national revenues pushing beyond the $350 million mark, the firm’s other office managing partners include Brendan Britten in Melbourne, Leon Muk in Perth, and Newcastle & Hunter’s Michael Minter.
