Economics and research advisory firm Mandala has promoted four company members across its offices in Sydney and Melbourne.

The promotions come as Mandala continues to grow in the Australian market, despite a challenging landscape. Established in 2023, Mandala has since its inception grown strongly to a team of around 40 partners and consultants. The firm advises governments and businesses on economic, policy and regulatory matters.

The company’s latest promotees – Luke Battersby, Sophie Mitchell, Amy Rieck and Jesse Gray – are based in its Sydney and Melbourne offices (the firm also has a hub in Canberra).

Luke Battersby steps into the Principal role. He brings nearly a decade of experience in financial services, technology, and digital assets from McKinsey & Company in Sydney and EY-Parthenon in Singapore. He holds a Master of Information Systems from the Australian National University and specialises in digital asset ecosystem development and financial innovation infrastructure.

Sophie Mitchell has been promoted to Engagement Manager after just a year at Mandala, bringing competition economics and technology policy expertise. Previously with Accenture’s Economic Insights team, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, and the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, she holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics from Monash University.

Amy Rieck has been elevated to Data Science Manager, strengthening the firm's advanced analytics capabilities. Previously at Quantium Health, she provided analytical support for the Disability Royal Commission, with her statistical modelling published by the Royal Commission. She holds a Masters of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Melbourne.

Jesse Gray has been promoted to Associate. He brings expertise from Accenture’s Economic Insights team in social services, technology, industry development, and sustainability. He holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney.

“In our work with our clients, we’re seeing extraordinary opportunities as technological diffusion, geopolitical realignment, enabling infrastructure, demographic change and energy transition accelerate,” said Amit Singh, Managing Partner of Mandala. “Luke, Sophie, Amy, and Jesse bring the analytical capabilities needed to serve clients navigating these complex technology and policy landscapes.”

International
Meanwhile, Mandala has over the past year seen its international portfolio of projects grow notably, according to Singh a reflection of growing global demand for economics and policy.

In countries such as Taiwan, the UK, France, Spain, Germany, Japan, Singapore, the US, and Canada, Mandala has won engagements spanning topics such as technology commercialisation, regulatory frameworks for emerging industries, and strategies for economic diversification.

“We’re also helping governments and businesses navigate the intersection of innovation policy and market dynamics.”
