HLB Mann Judd welcomes four new partners

Accounting and consulting firm HLB Mann Judd has appointed four new partners in Australia, including recruits Simon Thorp and Ronnie Calligeros who have both joined from KPMG.

Calligeros crosses to HLB Mann Judd’s assurance & advisory team in Robina after a decade and a half at KPMG in the Cayman Islands and on the Gold Coast, while new senior tax partner Simon Thorp had been with the Big Four firm in Sydney since 2000.

Meanwhile, Marcus Polovineo also becomes a tax partner in Sydney after joining HLB in 2011, while office colleague Lindzi Caputo has been promoted to partner within the firm’s wealth management division, having joined as a graduate in 2009.

“Appointing four new partners marks a significant milestone in the association’s growth journey,” stated Australasian chair Tony Fittler, with the firm having also elevated six new directors in Sydney and Perth. “The accounting profession has been evolving over the last few years, and we remain firmly focused on what matters most, our people and our clients.”

Veteran tax adviser Simon Thorp brings 35 years worth of experience to the firm, including the past two and a half decades at KPMG, where he has been a partner in the firm’s private enterprise division since 2013. His expertise includes international tax and M&A, as well as due diligence, structuring, IPO advisory, capital management, and tax compliance.

Ronnie Calligeros has been recruited as an assurance partner in HLB’s newly-added Robina office after having spent the past decade with KPMG’s local office, before which he was stationed with the Big Four firm in the Cayman Islands. Earlier spending time with PwC, his two decades of local and international advisory and assurance experience span clients of all types and sizes.

An accounting and finance graduate of the University of Technology Sydney, newly-admitted tax partner Marcus Polovineo has been with the firm in the city since commencing his degree in 2011. Since then he has gained experience across a range of segments, including as to funds management and infrastructure, while specialising in corporate tax compliance and consulting.

Lindzi Caputo also joined HLB, two years earlier upon completing her business degree with UTS in accounting and human resources management, and now becomes a partner in the firm’s wealth management division, where she supports a wide range of private clients in areas such as superannuation, retirement planning, and investment advisory.

New directors

In addition to the four new partners, HLB has made six mid-year director promotions, including Emma Hicks (wealth management) and Lachlan Bell and Katie Bruce (both assurance & advisory) in Sydney, along with Dylan Sheard (corporate & audit services), Brendan Bate (wealth management), and Don Tyrie tax advisory services) in Perth.
