HLB expands business advisory team in Perth through A Plus

Accounting and consulting firm HLB Mann Judd has expanded its business advisory services division in Perth to 30-plus through the acquisition of local outfit A Plus Business Advisors.

Based in Subiaco, A Plus has been operating for just shy of two decades, serving individuals and small enterprises and across tax and compliance, financial reporting, super, and other business services, including advisory in areas such as planning and improvement.

Led by founder Garry Anderson, A Plus has a team of around one dozen listed accountants and advisors, along with a number of bookkeepers and support staff, with HLB Mann Judd stating the addition would see its local business advisory practice grow to more than 30 professionals.

“This delivers increased scale to our existing offering but also adds a respected group of advisors to our own quality team,” stated HLB’s Perth managing partner Norman Neill. “The expansion significantly boosts the size and depth of our business advisory services division, positioning us among Western Australia’s top ten accounting firms.”

Anderson alone brings more than four decades worth of both local metropolitan and regional industry experience to HLB Mann Judd, having spent time with RSM Bird Cameron in the 1980s before later serving as a founding director at another accountancy and ultimately establishing A Plus in 2006 (originally as Anderson Chartered Accountants).

“From our earliest conversations with HLB, it was clear that their culture and client-first mindset closely aligned with ours, and I’m excited to be joining the firm and contributing to this next phase of growth,” Anderson said, although his exact future role wasn’t stated. HLB has ten partners in Perth, according to its own website, along with six directors.

One of those partners, business advisory services practice leader Rowan Tracey, said the addition of A Plus’ highly experienced team from early November was was exciting step for the firm; “This growth gives us additional depth across several key areas and ensures we continue to offer tailored, practical advice to help our clients navigate the road ahead.

HLB’s expansion in Perth follows other recent additions to the accounting and consulting firm’s national network, including new locations in Robina and Lismore via the audit & assurance practice of Thomas Noble & Russell and more recently in Newcastle, with the formerly representative audit team of Cutcher & Neale joining as a full member in October.
